{"id":3914,"date":"2011-09-01T19:32:53","date_gmt":"2011-09-02T02:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/216.92.17.21\/?p=3914"},"modified":"2011-09-02T00:10:33","modified_gmt":"2011-09-02T07:10:33","slug":"preface-%e2%80%94-rebbes-queer-daughters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beitmalkhut.org\/?p=3914","title":{"rendered":"preface \u2014 the rebbe&#8217;s queer daughters \u2014 the uriel tree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><em>The Uriel Tree grew from ancient times to the present almost nowhere on earth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>But where it took root, it grew hardy and strong, and could survive where others could not.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>It preferred, unbelievably enough, arid, marginal environs where not much else could survive.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Curiously, it did not at all mind the wind, or even, on occasion, a thick damp fog.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>But the Tree grew lonely in its preferred clime, and so it befriended a she-goat,<br \/>\nand taught the black silky-haired one her secrets.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>The goat laughed, being fairly light-hearted, and agreed to be complicit in the affairs of the Tree.<br \/>\nIn gratitude, the Tree grew for the goat thorny spines, treacherous to other beasts<br \/>\nwho could neither access nor digest them.<br \/>\nThus, a Covenant was made between the Tree and the Goat, binding them together.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Generation after generation, goats, both male and female, have honored the secrets of the Uriel Tree<br \/>\nand imparted the knowledge of the Tree to their keepers (if they had any),<br \/>\nif and when their keepers seemed so attuned.<br \/>\nThus, in each family there might be a maiden who was chosen to learn of the gifts of the Tree,<br \/>\nif she were willing to labor on the Tree\u2019s behalf, knowledge, after all, entailing obligation.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Malkah was one such maiden.\u00a0 But surely, she is not alone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>* * * *<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>This is how the tale begins, as absurd as it may sound. I\u2019ve found solid evidence for much of it\u2014especially about Malkah.<br \/>\nI know this part of the tale the best, for she is, after all, my sister.<br \/>\nI\u2019ve watched her.\u00a0 And I\u2019ve followed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>This tale is for her.
