I took my Mac to the Apple Store today, and the guy at the Genius Bar was as stumped as I was. I found this curiously reassuring. What was even more pleasant was the verdict: a $326 flat fee to repair it\u2014whatever “it” is\u2014unless they discover liquid damage, which they won’t.<\/p>\n
They have no idea what’s wrong. Dead video was the first problem, but as of today the thing wouldn’t even boot, so it could be anything\u2014a loose wire, a dead video board, a dead logic board, who knows?!\u2014but the charge is only $326.<\/p>\n
Let’s hear it for Apple doing right by their customers.<\/p>\n
With my studio Apple out for repairs, I’m back to primitive recording equipment or else a many-hour project installing ProTools, etc., on my main Mac. Meanwhile, I’ve succumbed finally to the cold that has been threatening for about a week, so I was in no mood to play horn tonight.
